Color Theory Zentangle Tree
The 6th graders learned about color theory including warm/cold, primary, secondary and tertiary colors. Then they created a tree showcasing their knowledge of color theory as well as elements of art. Each square on their tree trunk is filled with a different pattern or Zentangle design. Students focused on varied types of line to create these patterns.
1 Point Perspective Landscape
Sixth graders practiced drawing shapes in 1 point perspective, then they learned the basic steps to creating a landscape. The only criteria was that each landscape had to have trees on one side and buildings on the other. Beyond that, students were encouraged to use their creativity and imagination.
Heroic Greek Vases
Students created a 2 dimensional Greek Vase while learning about the process of making pottery and building upon prior knowledge of mythology and the Hero's Journey from ELA. They learned that making pottery today is very similar to how it was made in ancient Greece. Students also learned to recognize the two main styles of Greek pottery; red figure pottery and black figure pottery.
